August is National Peach Month!
And September is National Bourbon Heritage Month (for real!). Talk about the stars aligning and a match made in heaven and all that stuff. As we celebrate this last month of summer and get ready for fall, I can’t think of a more appropriate cocktail. So make your way to the farmer’s market this week for some fresh peaches and mint, and give this classic whiskey “smash” recipe a try. You’ll be oh-so-happy you did.
1/2 peach, cut into thick slices
3 or 4 fresh mint leaves
1 lemon wedge
1 ounce water
1/2 ounce simple syrup
2 ounces whiskey (Canadian whiskey or bourbon work well)
1 sprig mint
1 thin peach slice for garnish
Muddle all ingredients except whiskey in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and whiskey. Shake and strain into an ice-filled old fashioned glass and garnish with a peach slice and a sprig of mint. (Makes one drink.) Cheers!
