Don’t just watch the solar eclipse, drink it too
The total solar eclipse is upon us in less than 5 days and the energy in Central Oregon is palpable. With enormous lines at the grocery stores and gas stations already running out of gas, it can feel like we’re preparing for the apocalypse. But let’s not forget that this is an amazing natural occurrence – one that hasn’t been visible in Bend and the surrounding towns since 1979. We should be eager and excited, not panicked and stressed out. And just remember, on Tuesday August 22nd, things will slowly return to normalcy and you’ll wonder why you bought a freezer full of bread and 80 gallons of gasoline.
So take a moment and BREATH. Instead of stressing, turn this monumental event into yet another excuse to create a unique cocktail for your upcoming eclipse party (or to drink alone in your doomsday bunker).
Solar Eclipse Punch:
2 oz. Vodka
1 oz. lemon juice
1 oz. simple syrup
2 oz. pineapple juice
1/2 tsp of activated charcoal (available at beauty stores and online)
lemon wheel for garnish
Shake all ingredients in a shaker with ice until cocktail turns midnight black. Pour contents over ice and garnish with a lemon wheel. Sip and imagine the lemon is the sun and the cocktail is the darkness cascading over it!
